I liberated a 15" 1280 x 800 LCD display panel from a Compaq F500 laptop. This laptop seems to have died, probably because of the known issue of the Nvidia display chip becoming loose.After getting it out, I see that the width of this panel is about the same as the outside width of the box, so I am not sure I can comfortably fit the panel. But cardboard is pretty forgiving and I think I can work it in.
I am not sure at this point how to wire it up. The connector of course is a tiny one. I have the pinout but I need to either find a compatible connector, or cut the wires and attach a connector that will plug into the LVDS board.
